A nation with no borders is no nation at all, it's a reversion to anarchic violence, a shrinking of our vision to the threat landscape that's directly in front of us, the theft of the invisible bonds that tied us together. If the left thinks they will come out on top of this primordial struggle they are mistaken. That's perhaps the great irony of the present moment that conservatives ultimately seek to protect liberals from themselves.
